30 Homeschool Freebies in 30 Days - 2 Paper Freebies!

Today I am offering you 2 scrapbooking freebies as homeschool freebies, because I love to use these papers, elements, and even the alphabets in my lapbooks, notebook covers and dividers, and book report and notebooking pages!

The first one is a brand new seasonal kit freebie from Dandelion Dust Designs.  I don't celebrate Hallowe'en and I know a lot of my readers do not, either, but I love the papers and the pumpkin and flower elements in here for seasonal pages.  I think I may use that tree for some family tree pages.

Download this FREE mini-kit on DDD's Facebook Page!

The second freebie today is from My Memories.  I absolutely love these papers!  Sign up for the My Memories newsletter to receive a freebie like this one every Friday!

30 Homeschool Freebies in 30 Days: The Power of the Holy Spirit

I would like to re-post a freebie that I shared in August, but I shared it as part of a larger discussion about the movie The Holy Spirit.  This is a fantastic resource, and I want to make sure that everyone sees it even if they did not read that lengthy post.

In the four volumes of The Power of the Holy Spirit, Don DeWelt takes an in-depth look into every reference to the Holy Spirit in the Bible.  If you are looking for an educated, in-depth, completely Biblical study on the Holy Spirit, or if you are looking for some theological reading for your high schoolers, this is the best resource on the Holy Spirit, apart from the Bible itself, that I have found.

Now, College Press is offering ALL FOUR COMPLETE VOLUMES as PDF downloads, along with four volumes of Personal Worship by Don DeWelt and two books by Herbert Casteel.  All 10 titles as completely free downloads.

Go to http://www.collegepress.com/storefront/node/242 for these 10 FREE books.

Happy Reading!  :-)

30 Homeschool Freebies in 30 Days - Classical Composers Monthly - Jazz Composers

Large logo

I have always loved music, but in the last couple of years, my kids have really delved into that love of music with me.  They've gone from thinking the little kids' songs I play are cute and participating in my children's play at church to having a real appreciation of all kinds of music on their own.  The older ones each play two instruments and are active in several music groups.

Along with this transition I've been teaching them more about music in homeschool.  A fantastic resource for learning about different types of music and different composers is Classical Composers Monthly.  This month we've had the opportunity to review the Jazz Composers unit.  I have found the website to be a great interactive way to study a unit.  I received links on 15 Jazz composers to study:  Art Tatum, Benny Goodman, Bix Beiderbecke, Cab Calloway, Charlie Parker, Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie, Duke Ellington, Fats Waller, Fletcher Henderson, John Coltrane, Louis Armstrong, Ornette Coleman, Ray Charles, and Thelonious Monk.  What a great hall of fame!  For each artist, there is a picture, a short bio, and links to further information, games and puzzles, and samples of music he composed.

Now that I have the Jazz Composers in my Classical Composers Monthly account, it will remain there. I can come back to it later to review, teach my younger kids the lesson again, or to listen to the music samples.  I can purchase other collections on Classical Composers (as the name suggests), or even fine artists or inventors.  There is a wealth of information on the site.

If you would like to try out Classical Composers Monthly, you can try out a unit of Duke Ellington from the Jazz Composers, or several other artists, FREE.  Just sign up for information at Classical Composers Monthly.

Happy homeschooling!

30 Homeschool Freebies in 30 Days - Fruit of the Spirit Sample

The Bible uses great imagery to teach God's truths.  Children and adults use familiar imagery to understand and remember these truths.  Teach your children about the Fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23 using the fun fruit images in our Fruit of the Spirit Lapbook and Study Guide.

30 Homeschool Freebies in 30 Days - 9/11 Remembrance

I am so sorry that I did not get the freebie up in time for yesterday.  9/11 Remembrance Day is so important, and while it is fresh in the minds of those of us who are adults, many of the students we are homeschooling now were very young or not even born in 2001, and they do not remember.

My favorite book for this occasion - to remind and to teach my children about the great tragedy that took so many lives, including the father of one of my son's best friends, as well as to tell them how our country came together in the face of the tragedy and how God protected us - is The Little Chapel That Stood.

See the author, A.B. Curtiss, reading the book on a free video at http://www.abcurtiss.com/chapel_abcurtiss.html.

30 Homeschool Freebies in 30 Days - Flyby Review and Dolphin Tale 2 Giveaway AND Freebie!

I am sure you've seen the buzz about Dolphin Tale 2, which opens today!

I am so excited about this movie - everyone go see it!!!

Then check out the FREE homeschool curriculum that goes with the movie!

I have reviewed several curriculums that accompany movies.  This is a great way to give the kids a fun break from the norm, while still making sure they are learning lots.  If you can use a new movie that just came out, the kids are even more excited!

The Dolphin Tale 2 curriculum is fabulous.  More than just discussing questions and answers about the movie itself, it delves into a whole unit about dolphins.  Each lesson has an accompanying video and is short enough that I don't feel overwhelmed.  Experiments and PDF science lessons are included and are packed with information.

Also, leave a comment below or on my Facebook page to be entered into the drawing for this fun Dolphin Tale 2 Promo Pack!

30 Homeschool Freebies in 30 Days - Theory of Intelligent Design for High School

LetsHSHS.com High School Homeschool Blog Hop
Today I am offering a high school freebie as part of my 30 Days series and also as part of the Homeschool High School Blog Hop.

Think lapbooking is just for the younger kids?  While my girls (who love scrapbooking) may continue lapbooking until college, my son was over it when he was about 10!

That is why we have "lapbook journaling" for the older students.  Knowledge Box Central's lapbook journals include notebooking pages and a study guide.  There are lapbook mini-books that a student may choose to include on the pages, or your student may choose to just take notes on the pages without breaking out the scissors and glue stick!  The decorated subject-oriented pages make note-taking a bit more fun and help the students to remember the subject material.

NOTE:  The sample contains the popular dinosaur puzzle mini-lapbook that younger children may enjoy as well!

Find the full Theory of Intelligent Design Lapbook Journal by clicking image below.  The unit study can be done in 1-6 weeks, depending upon how in-depth you want your study to be.  There are options at the end for using additional suggested resources to make this a one-semester study for one-half of a high school science credit.

If a man is walking through the woods and finds a perfectly-functioning pocket watch lying on a stump, does he assume that the random forces of nature placed all of the parts together in exactly the right places to form a sophisticated time-piece, or does he assume that a clock-maker has passed that way before?  This question, posed by natural theologian William Paley circa 1802, has led to the modern study of intelligent design.  What is the study of intelligent design?  Where can a student find resources to understand this subject?
This Lapbook Journal combines journaling with lapbooking to help your student create a notebook that shows a true understanding of this subject.  Written by a homeschool mother, it includes an extensive Study Guide on the most up-to-date research, as well as a journaling section and a section to make optional lapbook pages.  Each section includes suggested resources for further study, and there are links to videos and websites to further enhance learning.  Use for a few weeks to get a general overview of the study of intelligent design, or spend 50 class hours completing all sections and some suggested further resources for a one-half high school credit in Science.
This Lapbook was designed for 6th-12th grade students, but younger students may enjoy the challenge as well.  Please also check out our Theory of Intelligent Design Lapbook, designed for K-8th grade students. BOTH of these products use the SAME Study Guide so that your entire family may study this fascinating subject together.

Happy Notebooking!  :-)
