My Memories Blog Train

Today is another post for the digital scrapbookers.  We are highlighting the My Memories Blog Train.  Whether you are just getting started as a scrapbooker or are a seasoned scrapbooker, Blog Trains are a great way to build your stash.  Each designer on the blog train contributes a small mini-kit that you can download for free.  All the kits usually use the same color palette and sometimes have a common theme.  The train benefits the designers by driving traffic to their blogs or Facebook pages, and by getting their work into the hands of some new customers who may like what they see and decide to buy more.  Some designers will offer a larger kit, with the same theme and/or color palette, for sale while the blog train runs.  The end user ends up with a nice collection of complimentary mini-kits that can be used all together as one big kit.  Since the themes are often seasonal, after you have collected blog trains for a year, you will have a nice selection of kits for all seasons and occasions.  This is also a good way to try out new designers before choosing which kits to buy.

www.MyMemories.com runs a blog train from about the 15th to the end of every month.  This month the color palette has some nice basic colors that make me think of back-to-school themes, and several of the designers chose a back to school theme.  Some of the designers also offer some extra goodies on the side.

December Freebies - My Memories

I will not be able to get on blogger every day during December, but today I have several freebies for you!  This one is from My Memories, and it would be a fun project for the whole family.  Click image below for the link to download the templates for these beautiful 3D stars.  Hurry, it's only free until December 10!

I've talked to several people recently who are wanting to get started with digital scrapbooking.  I don't think I'll ever completely give up paper scrapbooking (I'm a hybrid scrapper), but there are advantages to scrapping your memory books digitally:

1) It's all GREEN - no paper, no waste!  If you choose to print your pages, you still don't have all the little pieces you just threw away from cutting paper and cropping photos.

2) Easy to share on Facebook, blog, or email.  Face it, how often do your friends come over to watch the slideshow from your vacation anymore?  Or to look at your albums?  All of your friends will look at a digital album on Facebook!

3) Easy to share multiple copies.  Making a family album?  Send a disc to Cousin Harry and your Great Aunt Ruth.  They can view it on a computer, a digital picture frame, or have it printed out.

4) Protect your originals.  Have a photo of your great-great-grandparents taken in 1860?  You definitely do not want to cut or glue that.  Scan it and then file it in an archival envelope in a safe somewhere.  Crop the scan and make copies of your page for any family members who want it.

5) Less mess.  I was trying to paper scrapbook with four children ages 6 and under, who wanted to "help" me with the glue and scissors.  It was an ordeal just to get out my supplies.  Now it's all on my laptop, which I can take with me while I'm waiting an hour here and an hour there for karate lessons, baseball practice, etc., and make good use of my time.

6) Inexpensive, and you can use every paper and embellishment over and over again.

Hi, I'm Vicki! . I live in Bristol, England and have done for the past 20 years. I love it here, it's a big city and there is so much going on. We are, however, moving out to the countryside later this year for a bit of a change!

My extended family is HUGE - I have something like 30 first cousins and I've lost count of second cousins! My Mum has 4 siblings and my Dad had 5, so that's a few aunties and uncles to begin with! However, my immediate family - those I live with are just my hubby and two Labradors, Pompey and Lily. I love my little family and there are no plans to extend it - small is beautiful!

I started as a card maker and paper scrapper (and I still am), but we bought a house that needed a lot of work and there just wasn't room to have a dedicated scrapping area at that time, so I started spending more time on the internet looking at layouts for inspiration when I would be able to have a scrapping space. One day I found a layout that looked like paper, but it was digital - I was so impressed and that got me hooked - I realized I could indulge my hobby without the space and mess! Designing came not long afterwards - I use photoshop at work and know it quite well and I figured I could use that knowledge to make my own kits. I have to tell you, my first efforts were not brilliant, but I guess we all have to start somewhere!


I have a Canon EOS 1000D which is fairly new to me, but I adore it. The photos it takes are so much better than my point and shoot even in automatic mode. However, I am learning slowly how to use manual and the photos are improving more :)

When designing I take inspiration from lots of things - items of clothing, events, colour swatches and sometimes just an image I see on the internet. There is so much inspiration everywhere you look! I guess when I design I nearly always have a colour swatch first before anything else. That swatch usually says something to me and I find a theme from that.

A random fact about me..... When I was 11, I was convinced that I would one day marry George Michael!
