Flyby Review: Living Hope CD from Pizza Ranch

Well, I am just loving doing this review!!  One of my favorite quotes is one by C.S. Lewis:  "We don't need more people writing 'Christian books,' what we need is more Christians writing good books."  I have always thought that idea was applicable in any profession.  You do not have to be a preacher or a missionary to minister for Christ.  What God wants is Christians in every profession, being salt and light to the world.

This is the idea behind Pizza Ranch:
Adrie Groeneweg had a dream that started in Hull, IA, in 1981, when he was just 19 years old.  It was simple.  Why does everyone have to drive out of town to get a pizza?  With just six specialty and single topping pizza recipes developed by Adrie's mother, Lorraine, Pizza Ranch was born.  Pizza Ranch's vision and mission is to glorify God by positively impacting the world and to give every guest a legendary experience.  They have 190+ locations across 13 states including Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Nebraska, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado.
Excellence in business in order to honor God - that is something we could use more of in this world!

Unfortunately, I live in North Carolina and have not had chance to sample Pizza Ranch's wares (although if I vacation in one of those areas, I will seek one out)!  What I did get a chance to sample is the album Living Hope, which was released by Pizza Ranch on June 2, 2015.  The album contains twelve songs from many of Pizza Ranch's favorite Christian artists.  Most of the songs, centering around the theme of hope, were written especially for this album!  This is just one more way for this business to reach out to the world around them, spreading hope and the Gospel.

The name "Living Hope" comes from I Peter 1:3 -
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
It has been one of my favorite verses since I sang in a group by the same name in college.  The album gets a 5-out-of-5-star rating from me, containing Michael W. Smith and some of my other favorite artists.  It's fantastic music for a family road trip or to just worship God as you are driving to work.

The CD will be available to purchase for $5 plus tax exclusively in Pizza Ranch restaurants or for download at www.pizzaranch.com/livinghope through August 31.

From Adrie Groeneweg, President & CEO of Pizza Ranch, Inc.:
This album has a very special meaning for Pizza Ranch.  Although Pizza Ranch is not in the music business, many things have been happening, conversations have been taking place and doors have been opening for this album.  Through these events, I believe it was obvious that God has been behind this for His specific purpose and putting it on our hearts to collectively create this project.  As such, we call this our miracle album, Living Hope.
Of course, I could not leave you without some "hope" of winning this album yourself!  Comment here or on my Facebook page with the name of your favorite Christian contemporary singer or group by August 3 for a chance to win the CD!  If you don't know any, just comment, "I don't have a favorite," and perhaps you will win and find a favorite on this album!

Flyby Review: Old-Fashioned

Two weeks ago, I reviewed the DVD Old-Fashioned.  It was a compelling story of boy-meets-girl with a twist - the boy wants an "old-fashioned" courtship to protect both of them and to prepare for a solid marriage.  My children and I very much enjoyed the movie, as you can see in my review here.

Since then, I have been reading the accompanying novel, also titled Old-Fashioned.  Rene Gutteridge expounded on the screenplay written by Rik Swartzwelder to bring us the written story of equal quality.  Since the novel was written after the movie, she stayed pretty true to what had been done in the movie, but in novel form, she was able to offer more detail and information about the thoughts and backgrounds of the characters.  I really like the novel, and I think my daughters may read it, but I do not think it will appeal to my teenage son.  While my daughters coined this movie a "chick-flick," my teenage son did enjoy watching it, and I like the idea of using it for boys, because it shows an example of a man taking the leadership in keeping the relationship pure.  I would like it if there were a book to go along with the movie that he would like and that I could have him read, but I don't know if there is a good way to do that, as he really is probably not going to like any book about dating and relationships, period.

I think the devotional, on the other hand, can be used with boys and girls.  OK, OK, I'll admit my son doesn't really want to do a devotional about courtship with Mom, but since I have told him it is a condition of being allowed to date, he is willing to discuss such matters with me!  The Old-Fashioned Way is a good 40-day study (every good devotional is 40 days!) on how to put these ideas into practice.

And now that I've completed the second part of the review, we get to the exciting part.  Flyby Promotions is giving away the whole set, with the DVD and both books!  Comment here or on my Facebook page by Monday, July 6, to enter the drawing!
