August 4th

On August 4th, 1790, the first Congress of the United States authorized the construction of 10 vessels, known as the Revenue Cutter Service, to enforce trade laws and tariffs along the U.S. Coast. In 1915, this group merged with the national Life-Saving Service and became the U.S. Coast Guard. Learn more about the branches of service and the defenders of our freedom with the History of the Armed Forces Lapbook!
