FlyBy Review: Before the Wrath (and a Giveaway!)

During this season every year, a number of movies and stories come out reinforcing this one theme:  BELIEVE.  Everyone is searching for something to believe in.  There are phrases such as "Seeing isn't believing; believing is seeing;" "Believe in yourself;" and "Sometimes, you just have to believe."  Believe in Santa Claus, believe in aliens, believe that anything can happen.

Why is this such a popular theme?  Well, I think that people do want something to believe in, but as much as I truly love almost every movie about Santa Claus ever made, in real life, believing in something that is not true simply for the sake of believing is empty.  It is tragic.  I need to KNOW that what I believe is TRUE.

So, do you believe in the Rapture?  Do you believe that Jesus Christ is coming back to take his bride, the church, to be with him in heaven?

It is a heavy question.  Studies are showing that up to 25% of Christians do not even believe this is going to take place, to say nothing of non-Christians.

As this year, 2020, draws to a close, lots of people are asking questions about the End Times.  Is this it?  Is prophecy being filled before our eyes?  Or is prophecy even real?

Why is belief in the Rapture important?  Let me take a moment to say that I do not take a stand on whether the Rapture will be pre-tribulation, post-tribulation, mid-tribulation, or anything else.  I do not know if it will happen in my lifetime or if it is still a thousand years away.  I have no insight as to whether 2020 is ushering in the End Times.

What I do know is this: Jesus Christ is coming back, and we must be ready.  This is not a mere opinion to be debated.  It's either true or it's not.  If it is not true, then I suppose I am wasting my life by believing it.  But if it is true, don't you want to be ready?  You can't make it less true by not believing it or choosing to just not think about it.  If it is True, then don't you want to know?

Before the Wrath is a movie narrated by Kevin Sorbo that highlights the importance and impact of Biblical prophecy.  It features the following experts with fascinating insight:

  • ○ Jack Hibbs - Theologist and host of “Real Life” on SiriusXM
  • ○ Amir Tsarfati - Founder and President of Behold Israel
  • ○ Jan Markell - Founder of Olive Tree Ministries
  • ○ JD Farag - Theologist and Eschatologist
  • ○ Scott McConnell - Exec. Director of Lifeway Research
  • ○ Jay McCarl - Ancient Middle Eastern Anthropologist
  • ○ Lizette Dillinger - Qualitative Director of LifeWay Research
Watch the trailer:

This documentary was extraordinarily well-done.  The writers do not claim to know when the events will take place, nor do they comment on any specific current event fulfilling or not fulfilling prophecy.  They do not claim to have special knowledge or revelation.  They do give a factual and enlightening look at Biblical prophecy and why it is important.

The one criticism I would have is that I would like to know where they got their research on Galilean customs in the first century and how they were different from the regions around them.  I will be researching this further to see if I can corroborate that data.

Meanwhile, I recommend this movie for everyone.  One thing I can say about 2020 is that it is a year that has caused us to take a good, hard look at what is important and make hard decisions about our lives.

I haven't done a giveaway in a while, so it would be a good way to start this Christmas season!  Leave a comment on this blogpost or on my Facebook page by Monday, December 7.  All who comment will be placed in a random drawing for a free copy of this movie!

THE STAR MOVIE REVIEW: A FILM FOR EVERY MEMBER OF THE FAMILY

I was asked recently if I’d like to review THE STAR movie, based off of the very first Christmas, from the animal’s perspective surrounding Christ’s birth. This was something I had never done before but was excited about doing.
Wow and Wow! This film has it all from start to finish you will be mesmerized by its characters, colors and the story surrounding the Nativity. When I finished screening the movie, I was loving it! The story of Bo the Donkey along with Mary and Joseph flooded my heart with all kinds of emotion. I watched the film three times with the same reaction after each viewing! Bring in the amazing music and singing of Mariah Carey’s title track song. . . .

The Star - New Movie Review!

If you have been reading my blog for any time at all, you know I LOVE Christmas!  My husband won't let me decorate until after Thanksgiving, but the kids and I are starting the Christmas movies this weekend!

Not only do I love Christmas, but I also love anything that tells Bible stories in ways that will interest children and make us think about things from a different perspective.  That's why I'm very excited about the new Christmas movie for 2017, The Star, from the producers of Heaven is for Real and Miracles from Heaven, releasing nationwide today from Sony Affirm!

The Star is the Nativity Story told from the point of view of the animals.  It's amazing how much attention the animals have gotten over the years.  There have been countless stories and songs about the cattle lowing around the manger and the humble donkey feeling so honored to carry the mother of Jesus.  In truth, we don't know what animals, if any, were present.  The animals have made their way into the Nativity Scenes and the story because, of course, Jesus was laid in a manger, which was a feeding trough for animals.  This leads us to believe he was born in a stable or a cave where animals were kept in Bethlehem.  I wonder, however, whether there were any animals living in the stable at the time of Jesus' birth, or if they were all out in the fields with shepherds at that time of year.  It does not seem likely that Mary would have laid any newborn baby, least of all the Son of God, in a manger that was actively feeding animals.  I certainly would not have allowed any animals to nibble straw from around the head of my baby the night he was born!  Joseph and Mary were unlikely to have had enough money to buy a donkey, since when Jesus was born they sacrificed "a pair of doves or two young pigeons" for him at the temple, which was the lesser offering made by poor people who could not afford the sacrifice of lambs.  The wise men may well have used camels to cross the desert, but they are not mentioned in the New Testament, and they did not arrive on the night Jesus was born.  Including animals in the story, however, appeals to children and adds an element of whimsy to the story.  If there were animals traveling with Joseph and Mary, the wise men and shepherds, or already in the stable itself, what would they have thought of the Savior of the World coming to earth in infant form?  Would they have recognized their Creator?  Would they have known something out of the ordinary was going on?

I am enthralled with this movie based on the trailer and behind-the-scenes clips, and I cannot wait to see it!  I love movies about Bible stories that stay true to what actually happened, while speculating about different perspectives.  I hope this movie will do so.  I hope it treats the Nativity Story with the respect it deserves.  I love the fact that the races of the animated characters appear to be true to the story.  I hope this will become one of those beloved movies in our Christmas repertoire that we will enjoy together over and over again every year.

In addition to Oprah Winfrey as the camel Deborah (this is an awesome name for a camel, by the way!) and Mariah Carey as Rebecca, the all-star cast of this movie includes Kristin Chenoweth, Patricia Heaton, Kelly Clarkson, Christopher Plummer, Kris Kristofferson, and Zachary Levi (Flynn Rider from Tangled) as Joseph!  Some of these are people I would expect to find in this kind of movie and some are not - I like the diversity and I am looking forward to seeing what they each bring to the movie!
I will post another review after I see the movie.  If you go see it, let me know your thoughts!
